Nursing & Allied Health Research Grants 2008

Founded in July 2004, the National Trauma Research Institute is located within the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct as part of The Alfred hospital. The Institute's primary goal is to support and develop research programs that improve survival and quality of life for people who have suffered trauma injuries.

Our research program is a multidisciplinary integrated model that allows for trauma research to be conducted across a continuum of laboratory, clinical, rehabilitation and data/trend monitoring.

We recognise that care and management of the trauma patient can be demanding and complex, requiring an integrated team approach to produce optimal outcomes. We also recognise that there is only limited trauma research being conducted by Nursing and Allied Health professionals, both within the clinical environment and academically.

We hope that by launching this new funding initiative we can encourage interest in, and the uptake of, trauma research by nurses and allied health professionals. Furthermore, this research should contribute to improving the clinical management and outcomes of the trauma patient.

For this inaugural funding round, a limited Call for Applications will be conducted as a Pilot Program to assess its acceptance and workability, and will therefore be limited to Nursing and Allied Health professionals working in a Major Trauma Centre within Victoria, being:

  • The Royal Melbourne Hospital;
  • The Alfred hospital; and
  • The Royal Children's Hospital.

Based on the outcomes of the Pilot Program, we envisage that all future grant rounds will be made available to all Nursing and Allied Health professional working in, or associated with, the Victorian State Trauma System, and eventually, nationally.
