NTRI Official Opening
Over 250 guests joined us for the NTRI Official Opening on July 23rd 2004. Many colleagues from our major collaborating organisations, universities and hospitals were there as were representatives from all the major media groups. The Official Program commenced at 10 am with tours around the NTRI for our major sponsors. The Premier, Minister for Health and the media followed with a tour of the facilities including the laboratories. The Official Opening Program, with Master of ceremonies - Prof. Stephen Duckett, included guest speakers The Honourable Bronwyn Pike - Minister for Health, Ms Joanne Booth - CEO of the Victorian Trauma Foundation, The Honourable Steve Bracks - The Premier, and myself.
The Program also featured Ms Chloe Painter, a young trauma victim who has benefited from innovative spinal trauma surgical procedures as a result of research. As a part closing part of the program, flowers and thanks were given to Mrs Berryl Veall to represent our appreciation to all supporters for their generous donations. The Premier and I then unveiled a commemorative plaque and the Institute was open. Media interviews, staff photos, more tours of the NTRI and morning tea completed the official activities. Staff enjoyed a social function together at the Ormond Hall next to The Alfred to celebrate the day together.
