About the NTRIThe National Trauma Research Institute (NTRI) at The Alfred is the first Institute of its kind in Australia. It aims to prevent or limit the disabling effects of traumatic injuries through research and education in trauma care. These activities have the potential to generate enormous long term benefits, not only in preventing or limiting personal suffering but also in terms of huge cost savings to the community. Based at The Alfred, the NTRI brings together dedicated and energetic leading researchers in a state-of-the-art facility. The Institute is integrated with the largest clinical trauma service in Australia, enabling laboratory research to be readily transferred into a clinical setting. In a bid to provide better outcomes for those who have experienced a variety of traumatic injuries, research programs are being undertaken in many fields, including brain and spinal trauma, computer-assisted surgery, emergency medicine, epidemiology, orthopaedics, radiology, nursing, allied health, rehabilitation, telehealth, trauma intensive care and paramedic pre-hospital. Trauma Research Education programs are also being developed in all aspects of trauma management including undergraduate, postgraduate, allied health, nursing and paramedical studies. A major statewide resource, the NTRI promotes a unique, collaborative, multidisciplinary partnership between all major organisations involved in trauma care and research in Victoria. |
